The House system is key to the ethos and culture of the Skinners’ Kent Academy. It provides the framework by which all students are challenged and supported to achieve their best. It will enhance a sense of community within the Academy which encourages a feeling of identity and belonging.
Junior House (Year 7 and 8)
On joining the Academy the students enter Newton - the Junior House. This House is made up of house tutor groups led by Lead Teachers who play a vital role in the everyday life of the student by providing a secure and friendly base where students are confident that they feel supported and guided. The students remain in their Junior House tutor group throughout Year 7 and 8. The Lead Teacher plays a significant role in being their main teacher as well as House Tutor. They provide one of the main links between the Academy and home. The students are in one class base for most of their learning which allows for a more effective transition to ‘big school’. There is a Head of Junior House and Assistant Head of Junior House who play a key role in ensuring that your child achieves their potential and that you are kept informed of their progress.
Senior House (Year 9, 10 and 11)
Students move through to the Senior Houses - Brunel & Darwin - in Year 9 where they join all age House tutor groups led by House Tutors. They will remain in these House tutor groups throughout their time in Senior House. The Senior House Tutor also plays a vital role in the life of each student within their care, supporting academic and pastoral progress. The House Tutor knows everything about their attendance, attitude, behaviour, effort, achievement and participation in Academy life. The progress and well-being in each Senior House is overseen by Heads of Senior House and Assistant Heads of Senior House who coordinate the work of the House Tutors.
