SIXTH FORM MISSION STATEMENT

The Skinners’ Kent Academy is an independent non fee-paying school funded by the Department for Education and supported fully by its lead sponsor The Skinners’ School, a grammar school for boys and the Skinners’ Company, and its co-sponsors K College and Kent County Council.

The Skinners’ Kent Academy is founded on the principles of a culture of high standards and high aspirations, a culture of active participation, an emotionally rich learning environment and an inclusive environment where every child is known and every learner supported.

The Academy provides the highest quality of education for students initially in Year 7 to Year 11 and in the Sixth Form which will be established from September 2012. The Academy has been able to raise and reflect aspirations within the local community and provide educational, social and economic benefits for all. In its two years of operation standards of achievement and attainment have risen significantly. The blending of high expectations and challenge with a personalised approach to learning has improved attendance, behaviour and student outcomes immeasurably. Good citizenship and community engagement are encouraged, recognised and celebrated. Students have developed confidence in themselves and have developed a sense of initiative, leadership skills and the determination to see ideas through to completion. The Academy encourages students to take risks, accept failures and try different approaches in order to help prepare them for a rapidly changing world. The foundations of a happy and fulfilled life are developed and nurtured by strong supportive relationships between students, staff and peers. Students are balanced, articulate people, who have a strong sense of self-worth and compassion for others. An inclusive environment where every child is known and every learner supported is clearly in existence. All who study, work or visit the Academy feel safe, welcome and valued, irrespective of ability, belief, gender or ethnicity. All students and their families have a sense of worth, identity, aspiration and belonging. The Academy is running the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in KS3 and from September 2012 will open its initial Post-16 provision by offering the International Baccalaureate Career Related Certificate.
