Thank you for your interest in Skinners’ Kent Academy. I am very pleased to introduce you to a most exciting new development in education provision in Tunbridge Wells.
The Academy opened on September 1st 2009. It is an independent non fee-paying school funded by the Department for Education and supported fully by its lead sponsor The Skinners’ School, a grammar school for boys and the Skinners’ Company, and its co-sponsors K College and Kent County Council.
The Skinners’ Kent Academy is founded on the principles of a culture of high standards and high aspirations, a culture of active participation, an emotionally rich learning environment and an inclusive environment where every child is known and every learner supported.
The main aim of the Academy is to provide the highest quality of education for students in Year 7 to Year 11 and the Sixth Form from September 2012. However, the Academy is more than a new type of school. The Academy aims to raise and reflect aspirations within the local community and provide educational, social and economic benefits for all.
Students and staff moved into a brand new £21 million building in spring 2013. The state-of-the-art building, which is inspired by the Guggenheim Museum in New York, is 10,000m2 and has a range of facilities including: 7 science labs, a lecture theatre with 3d capabilities, radio studio, multi-media edit suite and drama studio. Wifi throughout the building will enable students to use mobile devices, such as ipads, throughout the building to further their learning. Within the 29 acres of grounds there are outdoor learning spaces, an 88x61m all-weather pitch and a multi-use games area with three floodlit netball courts and 5 tennis courts.
We aim to find and develop everything that is exceptional in each child and let it flourish within a framework of high expectations. We intend to motivate and inspire our students to achieve of their very best, to fly high and to set course on the brightest of futures.
I hope that this website provides you with a taste of what the new Academy offers. You are most welcome to visit us or attend one of our briefing events for prospective parents and students. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions about the Academy, or would like to attend a briefing event or tour the Academy in the working day.
