Course content:

For AS Applied Science Double Award 6 units of study are required
Unit 1 - Investigating Science at work
Unit 2 - Energy transfer systems
Unit 3 - Finding out about substances
Unit 4 - Food Science & technology
Unit 5 - Choosing & using materials
Unit 6 - Synthesising organic compounds

For A2 Applied Science Double Award a further 6 units of study are required
Unit 7 - Planning & carrying out a scientific investigation
Unit 8 - Medical Physics
Unit 9 - Sports Science
Unit 13 -Colour Chemistry
Unit 14 -The healthy body
Unit 15 -The role of the Pathology Service

Assessment

For AS units 1, 3, 4, & 6 will be internally assessed portfolio's with units 2 & 5 externally assessed exams of 1.5 hours each.
For A2 units 7, 9, 13 & 15 will be internally assessed portfolio's with units 8 & 14 externally assessed exams of 1.5 hours each.

Start date: September.
Duration: 2 years.
How is it delivered?: Full-time.
Availability: Current and continuing.

Who can do it?
Age range: 16 - 19.
Entry Requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C including Maths, English and Science

This course must be run in conjunction with the IBCC not a stand alone.

The course will help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across all industries are looking for.

With further training, you could go into a job related to Science such as a Pharmacist, Medical researcher or Scientist.
