Year 7 Students describe their first few weeks at the Skinners' Kent Academy

“I think Skinners’ Kent Academy is a big school and when I came here I felt really small, but now I have been here for a couple of weeks I feel I have grown bigger, smarter and older. I love being at Skinners’ Kent Academy. We have made lots of new friends and they are very nice.”

“Feelings? At the start you’ll feel scared but once you’ve made one or two friends, you’ll love it. You may think that school life is impossible, but it’s not, it is fun! Uniform: the uniform is a blazer, a pair of black trousers, a tie and polo shirt. Every time you walk to school or the bus stop people look at you in amazement. School size: the size of this school is giant compared to your primary and is getting bigger in 2012 when they will finish constructing the new Skinners’ Kent Academy. I’m sure it’s going to be amazing!”

“When I arrived at the Academy I felt really excited and I couldn’t wait to learn new things and make new friends. I like to do art because it’s great, science because we do lots of work with Bunsen burners and IC because we learn lots of new things.”

“I have only just come to Skinners Kent Academy but feel I’ve already been here for ages. Even though it’s a new school I don’t feel very different. The lessons are much better than primary school because there is always something new. There are no bullies and most people are friendly. Most of the teachers are nice, but some are slightly strict. The Academy is an excellent opportunity for a fun and healthy education. Everybody is looking forward to the new building that’s going to be built on the site.”

“There is always something new and exciting to learn and you can go home and tell your parents what you have learnt and exactly how you have learnt.”

“Science is wicked. You can use Bunsen burners to melt ice cubes or chocolate. Mrs Fennel is brilliant for teaching science because I knew nothing about science before I came and now I know loads.”

“The uniform is really comfortable – not itchy – and it keeps you warm in the winter. It is very posh and makes you look smart. I am happy at Skinners’ Kent Academy, I think it’s the best school ever!”
