I am the parent of two Skinners Kent Academy students, a boy and a girl, who joined the Academy at the beginning of the previous academic year. I am here to tell you about my perceptions and experiences of The Skinners Kent Academy over the last 12 months.

In my experience The Skinners Kent Academy is a school that is everything that it promises to be and so much more.

I am filled with pride by my children, but the truth is that most of what they have achieved has come about with the help of the teachers! Their passion to teach and deep interest in their subjects is very obvious when you meet them at the target setting and progress report evenings. They all seem to have an accurate awareness of my children’s personalities and performance ability.

I believe communication is vital. The triangle between student, teachers and parents is very important, which is why I am always pleased to see a text message or letter that conveys any day to day information. It also gives me the security in knowing that my children are in a safe environment and if anything should go wrong I would immediately be contacted.

The school offers many confidence building and leadership opportunities. My son has recently been made Head Boy and will become an apprentice to The Skinners’ Company and has been to Tonbridge Grammar School to mentor bright promising year 6 math students amongst other things. My daughter has sung at The Skinners’ Hall in London and had her art chosen for an exhibition, showcasing the best art from the Skinners’ School, Judd, Tonbridge School and the Hackney Academy.

As the new academic year begins so does the list of excellent enrichment activities and monthly project available for the students to part take in. I really like these projects as they give the students an understanding of how life after school is; showing them how they organize their time and how much energy they put into their work piece determines the outcome. The school has an excellent rewards system. My daughter put a lot of time and effort into her art homework project and was rewarded with a trip to London to see the National art gallery and the Tate modern!

My family chose to come to the Skinners’ Kent Academy 18 months ago and we have been rewarded.
Ladies and gentleman thank you for listening to me.
