Building on the success of recent years, Sixth Form students at The Skinners’ Kent Academy celebrated another excellent set of results in the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme for 2017. The students’ achievements have enabled them to secure places at universities to read courses such as: Education at Cardiff University, International Relations at Leeds, Law and Cyber Security at Canterbury Christ Church. Others in the cohort progressed into careers in education, retail, health and social care, graphic design and careers abroad, as well as apprenticeships in business administration and office management.
International Baccalaureate grades are awarded on a 1-7 scale, with 7 being the highest. The Skinners’ Kent Academy students achieved 100% grades 3-7 in their courses against the International Baccalaureate average of 98%. This demonstrates how successful the students are when measured alongside students internationally. 14% of the students gained the highest possible grade for their Reflective Projects, individual essays that focus on a personal investigation of an ethical dilemma. These essays are looked upon most favourably by the universities and attract additional UCAS points.
All Skinners’ Kent Academy students are members of the Skinners’ Company family of schools. As such, students benefit from being able to draw on the Skinners’ Company’s tradition of excellence, alongside the framework and values offered by the International Baccalaureate. Principal Matthew Tompkins said, “Once again, the International Baccalaureate Career-related programme qualification has proved to be the path to success for our students, whether as a preparation for further study at university, or as a route into employment or apprenticeships. As Principal of the Academy I am tremendously proud of the achievements of our exceptional students and wish them all continued success.”
