iPad Scheme

iPads are transforming the way we teach and learn. Powerful creative tools, interactive textbooks, and a universe of apps and content make for endless learning possibilities. All on a device every student in our Academy uses.

We have an 1:1 iPad scheme at The Skinners' Kent Academy funded by parental donations. 98% of parents and students are now part of the scheme.

Below is more information to help you use the iPad at The Skinners' Kent Academy.

If you wish to contact someone to discuss iPad payment, or if you are having difficulty paying please get in touch.

Responsible Use Agreement

This agreement is to be signed by the student and parent on collection of the iPad.  It states The Academy’s responsible use expectations of the student when using the iPad or any portable device in The Academy.

iMust
  • Bring the iPad fully charged to the Academy every day.
  • Keep the iPad in the case provided by the Academy at all times.
  • Only use the iPad as directed by my teacher in lesson time.
  • Only use headphones in a lesson with my iPad and when my teacher tells me to.
  • Not use social networking sites and instant messaging sites during the academy day.
  • Use the iPad camera responsibly and only with clear consent of any person being photographed or filmed.
  • Not upload any images or videos of any person without their clear consent.
  • Ensure the iPad does not contain any inappropriate images or videos.
  • Not share iTunes account information or any usernames or passwords with any other students.

iAccept
  • That I should not to listen to loud noises or music through headphones.
  • That I should take breaks from using the screen throughout the day to prevent eye strain.
  • That the teacher’s decision in the use of the iPad during lessons is final.
  • That any member of Academy staff can request any iPad at any time to check its content and internet history. I will be required to provide the unlock code for the iPad when requested.
  • I must take the iPad to the IT technicians as soon as possible if it stops working correctly (Miss Marpole in E003 at lunch time).
  • I must report any loss, theft or damage to the IT office as quickly as I can.
  • That if I deliberately damage any Academy iPad, I could be responsible for the cost of its repair or replacement.

Breakages

If an iPad is broken, damaged, or not working as expected, the first step is for the student to bring the iPad to the IT Office. They will try and fix it, and if necessary guide the student to arrange an insurance repair.

If the insurance has expired then you must find a 3rd party repair company and pay for the repair.

Remember, to always keep the iPad in the case. The insurance is invalid if the iPad is not kept in the case.

If your case is damaged replacement cases can be purchased via sQuid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns the iPad?
The iPad remains the property of the academy until the final donation has been completed. After the final donation you will be able to keep the iPad. The software on the iPad will remain under the control of the academy until your child leaves (web filtering, age restrictions, etc..). This is so we can send out academy apps, maintain the safety of students, and monitor for inappropriate usage.
How does the Insurance work? How do I make a claim?

All the iPads are provided with two or three year insurance policies. During this time, the iPads are covered for any failures, breakages or thefts.

If you wish to make a claim, the student should bring the iPad to the IT Office at lunch or break time. This should be done immediately as any delay can prevent the claim being paid. They will need the know the time, date, and circumstances of the breakage so they can process the claim. The IT department will also need to know the iTunes account details, and any lock codes on the device. They will then send the iPad to the insurer who will either repair or replace it.

If an iPad is stolen, then it must be reported to the police and a crime number obtained. Then the student should bring the iPad to the IT Office with the details of the date, time and location of the theft they will then process the insurance claim with the insurers.

If you have any questions about the process please email us at: info@skinnerskentacademy.org.uk
I need a new case, how do I get one?

Cases are available on Squid. Please buy one through your Squid account, and then the student can collect it from the IT Office. You do not need to buy a case when your child starts at the Academy. The iPad will come with one.
I can no longer afford the donations. What do I do?

Contact the academy and we will do whatever we can to help you. 01892 534377, or finance@skinnerskentacademy.org.uk
My child is leaving the academy, and we haven't finished paying for the iPad. What do we do?

You have two choices:
  • Return the iPad to the academy.
  • Pay the outstanding donations and keep the iPad. We will remove the iPad from our management system and it will be yours.

If you wish to discuss these options please contact our finance department: finance@skinnerskentacademy.org.uk
My child already has an iPad, can they use this instead?
No, the iPad we offer comes with two or three year insurance and warranty which is extremely important during school life and ensures its longevity.  These devices are also able to connect to our school network and in addition some software will be provided by The Academy.  It is important to note that these decision are based on the management of all student iPads from a safeguarding point of view.
We do not have the internet at home, what do we do?
The iPad is not intending for sole browsing and internet use.  Many of the applications can be used without internet access.  However, any information or homework can be downloaded using the Academy’s internet and work can then be completed at home.
Can the students take the devices home?
Yes, and if you have a suitable internet connection then they will be able to access their school software and documents from home.
How will you ensure responsible use of the iPads?
Both you and your child must read and sign the responsible use agreement form before you collect the device.  It is important that all students adhere to these rules.  When the device is in school, we will manage what applications are on the device and how it is being used.  When the device is at home, this is your responsibility.

If you have any other questions about the iPad scheme please contact us.
