Lord Dholakia visits The Skinners' Kent Academy

4/5/2018

The Skinners’ Kent Academy hosted a talk from a member of the House of Lords on Friday 4th May. The aim of the talk was to encourage students to become more engaged with the political and parliamentary process. Lord Dholakia met with students to talk about the work and role of the House of Lords, followed by a question and answer session on the parliamentary process and life at the Houses of Parliament.

Helena Read, Vice Principal, said, “We were delighted to welcome Lord Dholakia to The Skinners’ Kent Academy. The visit gave our students an opportunity to find out more about the parliamentary system and the work of the House of Lords in particular.  This event is part of a broad programme at the Academy that supports students to explore a wide range of careers and raise aspirations.”

The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s “Peers in Schools” outreach programme, which was established across the UK in 2007 and has so far involved around 90,000 young people.
