On Sunday 4th June Miss Brown, a Science teacher at the Academy, ran the Comrades Marathon which is the largest and oldest ultramarathon in the world. The race direction alternates each year and 2017 was an ‘up-run’ of approximately 56 miles uphill from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in South Africa.
Miss Brown said “It was without a doubt the hardest physical and mental challenge I’ve ever faced but I successfully completed it in 10 hours and 43 minutes, qualifying for a bronze medal. I did this to raise awareness and money for the charity Mind, an amazing charity that supports mental health and wellbeing. I have many close friends that have experienced mental health difficulties, so the charity and the work they do has always meant a lot to me.
There was an incredible atmosphere on the day of the race with crowds of people out supporting the runners along the whole route. I am very grateful to all my friends and colleagues at the Academy who have supported me in this crazy venture!”
Miss Brown has raised £1,090 so far for her chosen charity, Mind, and the Academy would like to congratulate her on this fantastic achievement.
