Skinners' Kent Primary School
Overview
The Skinners’ Foundation was delighted to have been asked by the Department of Education to sponsor a new primary school at Knights Wood in Tunbridge Wells.
Skinners’ Kent Primary School celebrated its first day of school for staff and Reception pupils on Thursday 3rd September. Pupils and specialist staff from Oakley School were welcomed to the class on Monday 14th September, to provide integrated provision for pupils with special educational needs. Skinners’ Kent Primary School has academy status and will educate boys and girls aged 4 to 11. The school opened with 30 pupils in Reception in dedicated premises on The Skinners’ Kent Academy site in Blackhurst Lane and will move into purpose built facilities in the new housing development at Knights Wood in September 2016. There will be a phased programme of growth to a capacity of 210 students across seven classes with the potential to extend to two form entry, in line with the projected increase in the birth rate. In addition, a Satellite Unit will provide inclusive provision for up to 12 pupils with special educational needs. Speaking at the time of opening, Executive Principal, Mrs Sian Carr, said: “I was delighted to welcome the first pupils and their families to Skinners’ Kent Primary School. Our high quality, bespoke facilities have allowed us to quickly settle pupils and embed the daily routines which will prepare us for our exciting move to new buildings in Knights Wood in 2016.” Parent, Kitty Forrest, said “It’s a lot of work setting up a new school. We have all been really impressed with everything done thus far and were just saying what a warm and inviting feel the school already has”. Skinners’ Company Education Officer, Tony Wilson, said “This wonderful new primary school, which will offer education to boys and girls aged 4 to 11, will benefit many local children and their families and we look forward to seeing it flourish over the years to come.” Skinners’ Kent Primary School is sponsored by the Skinners’ School Foundation and led and managed predominantly by The Skinners’ Kent Academy, with the support of The Skinners’ School. Oakley School will lead an integrated team offering inclusive provision for pupils with special educational needs, with a focus on children with autism. Skinners’ Kent Primary School will provide the heritage and experience to ensure high standards of teaching and learning are combined with outstanding care and support. |
