Battlefields Trip

Last Thursday, our Year 9 History students were taken on a two-day trip to the Battlefields of Ypres and The Somme. Despite the sombre nature of the trip, the students were fantastically well behaved and respectful throughout. 

The organisers let our school go first to lay the wreath down during the ceremony at the Menin Gate; they were also very appreciative of the Academy as our students dressed for the occasion by wearing their uniform. We also had hand-made crosses and wreaths from the Art and DT department. Whilst visiting the Menin Gate, one of our students was able to locate the name of her Great, Great, Great Grandfather; this was a special moment as we were able to lay a cross for him.
