The Scholar‘s Programme Term 6 2021-2022
Back
The Scholar’s Programme is an academic programme run by The Brilliant Club, which has been offered to 12 of our Year 12 students. Students selected have been identified as having the potential to make a successful application to one of UK’s most competitive universities. Although university may not be for everyone, The Scholars Programme aims to give students an experience of university learning that will help them to make an informed decision about their post-school options.
The programme is delivered online, through a series of tutorials and workshops. Students work with a university researcher (a PhD tutor) and study a course based on the tutors’ own research. The PhD tutors teach university-style sessions to small groups of students, designed to help them develop key academic skills. As part of the programme, students will also receive information, advice, and guidance from our university partners to support them with their next steps. At the end of their course, students will write a final assignment of 2,500 words, which will be marked in university style with pupils receiving a 1st, 2.1, 2.2.
I would like to congratulate the participating students for all their hard work and particularly acknowledge their time management skills in juggling end of year examinations and coursework tasks alongside the Scholars Programme research and essay writing requirements. A special mention goes to Jack Glazebrook and Omar Anwari who achieved a 1st for their submitted work. They were followed closely by Molly Blake, Abigail Biggs and Freddie Clout who achieved a 2:1. The students engaged with a variety of “big question” topics that fall under the different streams of Arts and Humanities, STEM and Social Sciences.
Congratulations again to last year’s Year 12s and I look forward to supporting this year’s cohort in the Programme.
