Are you passionate about helping young people explore their future and make informed choices?
We are seeking an dedicated and enthusiastic Careers Advisor to join our Academy, supporting students aged 11–18 in navigating their career, education, and training pathways.

The careers Advisor will take lead responsibility and accountability for the delivery of our Academy’s programme of careers advice and guidance. The post holder will have the confidence and authority to lead colleagues, make decisions, and enact reforms to ensure that the Academy meets the Gatsby Benchmarks. This is a part-time position of 3 days a week.

 

Job Purpose

•The Careers Advisor will take lead responsibility and accountability for the delivery of our Academy’s programme of careers advice and guidance.
•The post holder will have the confidence and authority to lead colleagues, make decisions, and enact reforms to ensure that the Academy meets the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Key responsibilities

Leadership

•Support the Assistant Principal, CEIAG administrators, external partners and others who deliver careers guidance
•Advise the senior leadership team on policy, strategy and resources for careers guidance and showing how they meet the Gatsby Benchmarks.
•Report to senior leaders and governors
•Review and evaluate careers guidance and provide information for Academy improvement planning, Ofsted and other purposes
•Assist in the preparation and implementation of a careers guidance development plan and strategic plan
•Maintain records to inform Compass evaluation
•Understand the implication of a changing education landscape for careers guidance, e.g. technical education reform, local market information
•Ensure compliance with the legal requirements to provide independent careers guidance and give access to providers of technical education or apprenticeships to students in the Academy
•Ensure that details of the Academy’s careers programme and the provider access policy statement are published on the Academy’s website.

Management

•Help plan the programme of activity in careers guidance
•Brief and support staff involved in careers guidance
•Support tutors, providing initial information and advice
•Manage the work of others e.g. careers adviser and other staff involved in the delivery of careers guidance
•Ensure students are listing their CEIAG development on UNIFROG
•Support the pathways for students at key transition points, i.e. Options Evenings, UCAS Coordination
•Manage the provision of career and labour market information
•Manage the careers section of the Academy’s website, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
•Liaise with the Heads of School and subject leaders to plan their contribution to careers guidance
•Coordinate encounters with employers and work experience
•Communicate with pupils and their parents

Networking

•Establish and develop links with further education colleges, apprenticeship providers, university technical colleges and universities
•Establish and develop links with employers and oversee the Business Mentors Programme for Y12
•Manage links with external organisations
•Secure funding for careers related projects
•Build a network of alumni who can help with the careers guidance programme

Additional duties

•Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the workplace
•Understand and apply Academy policies
•Adaptable, imaginative, creative and flexible in approach to the work
•Self motivating and the ability to identify your own training needs and a willingness to attend relevant training courses or other training
•Prepared to attend meetings outside of office hours
•Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young and vulnerable people that you are responsible for or come into contact with.
•To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace.
•Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the Academy’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
