Year 7 Yinka Shonibare Artwork

We would like to wish a huge congratulations to 7B1 and 7B2, who have been working hard on their unit exploring the principles of design, with a focus on pattern.

Inspired by British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare MBE and his award-winning installation ‘The British Library’, students researched the art and Dutch wax fabric patterns; they then designed their own pattern for the outer cover of their booklet. Each booklet celebrates an inspirational immigrant who has had a positive effect on them, their community or UK culture.

Immigrants chosen by the students to write about in their booklet’s included rock & pop stars, athletes, footballers, inspirational leaders, feminists, scientists, family members and friends. Take a look at some of their work below.
