HAP Trip to City St George’s University of London
Back
On Monday, a group of Year 10 students visited City St George’s University of London, for an exciting day of learning and exploration.
The visit began with a welcome from Craig Sherwood and the university’s Student Ambassador team, who provided an insight into university life and the opportunities available through higher education. Students were then divided into two groups for a series of engaging engineering activities. One group took part in a hands-on engineering workshop where they were challenged to design and construct dams capable of preventing water leakage. Meanwhile, the second group explored the university’s aerospace facilities, learning about aeronautical engineering and experiencing the opportunity to land an aircraft using a flight simulator.
Following the activities, students were given a tour of the university campus, providing an insight into the facilities, resources and support available to undergraduate students. The visit helped students to develop a greater understanding of university life, from independent study and research opportunities to the wide range of societies, services and career pathways available after completing their studies. Students also learned about the university’s rich history, including the fact that Mahatma Gandhi studied there during his time in London.
The afternoon concluded with a visit to Hay’s Galleria and a walk along the banks of the River Thames. Students were able to observe a variety of engineering and architectural features throughout central London, from historic structures to modern developments, whilst taking in some of the capital’s most iconic riverside views.
The students represented the Academy exceptionally well throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, engagement and exemplary behaviour were praised by staff and visitors alike, and they were a credit to our school community.
